QPIXEL TECHNOLOGY AND NUCORE TECHNOLOGY TEAM UP TO OFFER NEW H.264 REFERENCE DESIGN FOR DIGITAL CAMCORDERS AND CAMERAS
Product Evaluation Kit from Qpixel Technology and NuCORE Being Demonstrated at
PMA Offers First Proof-of-Concept for Customers Wanting High-Quality,
Low-Power H.264 in an All-in-One Capture, Encoding and Playback Reference Design
• Photo Marketing Association (PMA), Orlando, Florida, Feb. 24, 2006
Qpixel Technology, an innovator in H.264 digital video compression audio and video encoder/decoder solutions, and NuCORE Technology, a developer of leading edge
digital image processors for video and still cameras, have co-developed a low-power
H.264-enabled two-chip digital camera reference design that allows capture, encoding
and playback in a comprehensive, highly integrated solution for digital still and digital
video cameras.
It incorporates the industry’s first low-power, H.264 standard definition Main Profile
encode and decode ASSP (Application-Specific Standard Product) solution from Qpixel.
The two companies are demonstrating the reference Product Evaluation Kit (PEK) to customers at PMA. The PEK combines NuCORE’s CleanCapture SiP-1280 image processor tightly coupled with Qpixel’s latest H.264 codec delivering a high-quality, low-power
video compression capability.
“NuCORE achieved great success with its previous reference design based on DVD compatible MPEG2 technology. H.264 technology enables us to increase the
compactness and compression quality for the next generation of H.264 based designs,”
said Saul Altabet, senior director of marketing for NuCORE Technology. “NuCORE’s CleanCapture image processing technology, recognized by the industry as having the
highest quality and performance, together with Qpixel’s video compression codec and algorithms, are a great match offering customers the ultimate H.264-based solution.”
The PEK from NuCORE and Qpixel Technology saves OEM designers valuable design
time by offering the first digital camera/camcorder reference design capable of H.264
capture, encoding and playback in a compact comprehensive design.
The PEK offers specific performance enhancements for small profile products including
solid state memory DVD camcorders and digital still cameras that can record in H.264,
or what Altabet refers to as the “flashcorder” market.
“Qpixel is demonstrating its highly responsive system solution capabilities by co-developing with NuCore this two-chip solution H.264-enabled digital camera reference design, in a very quick turnaround cycle,” said Wen Hsu, president and CEO of Qpixel Technology. “We are previewing this Proof-of-Concept to our customers as the first in a line of products coming from Qpixel Technology in the near future.”
OEM customers who would like a private demonstration of the Qpixel Technology and
NuCORE Product Evaluation Kit and reference design can call Yasuhito Sakurai, Qpixel Technology director of business development, at 408-517-1139 Ext. 295.
