Summary of Position:

The primary role of this position is to develop embedded software to satisfy product requirements and to develop and improve the systems, methods and processes used to accomplish the task.

The Senior Firmware Engineer has technical responsibility for firmware functional requirements through the full product development life cycle from detailed analysis and design through verification and release. Must identify, analyze and resolve firmware and system functional deficiencies while developing and implementing corrective actions.

Architectural design, reusable modular designs, efficient engineering designs, testing to robust environments; production implementation and product support are fundamental elements in this role.

Requirements:

  • Participate in overall system design process.
  • Participate in silicon bring up.
  • Engage with top tier customers to provide customized designs.
  • Analyze, design, program, debug and modify software.
  • Provide adequate and accurate documentation of detailed firmware requirements, designs and test plans. Properly document source code.
  • Provide firmware task breakdowns, reliable effort estimates and achievable development plans to Project Engineers for planning and scheduling.
  • Test all new designs according to test plan prior to release.
  • Collaborate and share knowledge with fellow Firmware Engineers.



Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - separated into A / V and Common):

Audio Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of MPEG audio standards required.
  • Deep understanding of G.7xx speech coding required.
  • Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of audio and speech processing.
  • Knowledge of echo cancellation is a plus.
  • Background of digital signal processing is a plus.

Video Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of MPEG video standards and algorithms required.
  • Hands-on work on MPEG video pipeline and microcode.
  • Very strong hardware debugging ability is essential.

Common Qualifications:

  • BSEE or MSEE in Computer Science/Engineering or related field with at least 5 years of firmware (real time embedded) development experience on consumer products.
  • Must have chip level exposure, experienced with full life cycle of chip development.
  • The ability to work independently or in a group on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Frequently exercises sound judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • A minimum of three years hands on C and assembly language required.
  • Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of microprocessor concepts, electronic interface circuits, and control applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication/documentation skills.
  • Electrical/electronics background which includes the ability to read schematics and use basic debugging tools (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, etc.) is a considerable advantage.
  • A minimum of three years experience with operating systems (real-time or preferably Linux), experience writing drivers is a substantial plus.
